JURYSTATEMENT:
This tent is target-made for the female adventurer and her kit. It’s design history is impressive having been co-created by both Wechsel and the German based “Club der AbenteurerINNEN” (a club for female adventurers), with a focus on weight, packing dimensions, flexible space arrangement and a quick setup. First and foremost, the result is a great tent. At 1.4Kg it’s a light 1.5 person tent. The carry bag can vary in length to fit your backpack. It goes up in under a minute. It has plenty of pockets. The crowd constructed tent Bella was designed to make exploring the outdoors more enjoyable for adventurous women. The Jury unanimously agreed the result is a true success.
THE EASE OF BEING OUTSIDE.After three years of joint development with ”Club der AbenteurerInnen,“ the Berlinbasedbrand WECHSEL presents a tent for women – developed by women. The outdoor brand WECHSEL, which specializes in tents, surprised everyone in 2008 with a dome tent designedby the outdoor community. Four entrances and plenty of space for two tall people witha multitude of well thought-out details were made for the outdoor-loving (male) targetgroup. The success was not miraculous, but rather the result of the so-called crowd construction,a user-oriented development process. ”Forum 42“ was developed together withtravelers and outdoor athletes and has been a bestseller ever since. ”We do not developproducts, which do not fit the needs of our customers,“ says Jörg Schulze, founder andbrand manager of WECHSEL for over 25 years. ”From the beginning, our mission has beento create tents for real outdoor enthusiasts. So it makes sense to involve the target groupin product development. Through this approach we came up with the idea for Bella.“ Thetarget group agrees: In fact, women who hike have different priorities than men – and thatdoesnʼt mean the color scheme or other bells and whistles,“ says Jessica Zumpfe, outdoorphotographer, who tested Bella. These priorities have flowed into the development of Bella with almost scientific accuracyfrom the first interviews through the pilot and test phase to the finished product. For sixmonths, the participating adventurers tested the prototype created in the crowd-constructingprocess with the mission of creating.
The integration of the female perspective, their wishes and requirements makes the tent a perfectly developed piece of gear for women.

In April 2016, on an equipment test tour in Hardangervidda, our Brand Manager Jörg talked to Geertje about an upcoming project. He had the idea to develop a tent with the female outdoor community. To this point he did not know that Geertje would be an jury member in #she is outdoors – Women's gear award.
